Why We Love It

Made with Recycled Polyester: Polyester isn't just energy intensive to make, it's one of the main drivers of microplastic pollution out there, which means we don't want to make any more of it. Enter recycled polyester! Recycling polyester (by reusing things like plastic bottles) cuts plastic waste, plus it can reduce energy consumption by 30-50 % and CO2 emissions by ~79% compared to making it new. That makes mechanically recycled polyester one of the most eco-friendly fibers out there!

Compostable Packaging Made From Recycled Materials: All packaging is made from recycled materials and printed with soy-based inks, and instead of plastic poly bags they use compostable protective bags.

Impact

Polyester makes up over half of all fabric produced globally each year, over 60 million tons, and demand is just continuing to grow. In fact, if the industry continues to grow as predicted, the it could use over a quarter of the carbon budget associated with a 2-degree pathway, by 2050. That’s because polyester is so energy intensive to produce, and that’s before we even get into microplastic pollution.

Polyester is a synthetic textile, essentially a type of plastic. And every time you wash it, it sheds microplastics. That’s bad news for our oceans and waterways, where a lot of these teeny tiny microplastics end up, going into fish, water, and eventually, you. Because we use polyester for so many of our clothes it’s one of the top contributors to microplastics in the ocean. Studies show synthetic textiles, largely polyester, contribute between 16% and 40% of global microplastic pollution entering the oceans.

That’s why we don’t want to make any more of it and why recycled polyester, which takes plastic out of the environment by using it as a material, and reduce energy consumption by 30-50 % and CO2 emissions by ~79% compared to the new stuff, is so important.

Sadly, less than 1 per cent of collected textiles are recycled back into clothing or textile use, but by showing companies that you care about recycled polyester products you can help change that!
