Take A Sustainability Deep Dive
Traditional hair accessories are often made of plastic, contain chemicals and designed to be disposable, quickly ending up in landfills. There are plenty of other options out there, made of more sustainable materials, chemical free and/or designed to biodegrade. Here's some info to consider:
Organic Cotton: Compared to its conventional counterpart, organic cotton boasts a significantly lower environmental footprint. Studies show that organic cotton cultivation utilizes up to 71% less water and 62% less energy. It's biodegradable too!
Bamboo: Bamboo is a fast-growing and renewable resource that can grow up to a foot per day, and serve as a carbon sink! Whether used as wood or woven into fabric, bamboo can be a great choice. Plus it biodegrades!
Recycled Plastic: No one wants more plastic, but there's already a lot out there, and it's not going anywhere. Instead of leaving it in a landfill (or worse the ocean) recycling that plastic is a great way to use it. Production from recycled plastic uses up to 75% less energy and emits up to 50% fewer greenhouse gasses than virgin plastic
Great hair requires a lot of maintenance, and you can do it while maintaining the environment at the same time!
