Take A Sustainability Deep Dive

Did you know that the textile industry is the 2nd largest cause of pollution after oil and gas? Enough textiles are discarded annually to fill a garbage truck every minute. Conventional clothing production guzzles water too, an estimated 2.7 trillion liters per year, which is enough to fill an Olympic swimming pool every single day. And it's responsible for around 10% of global carbon emissions, more than international flights and maritime shipping combined. But it doesn't have to be this way, sustainable clothing offers a path towards a cleaner future.

Sustainable clothing goes beyond just aesthetics. It prioritizes eco-friendly materials like linen, hemp, bamboo, or organic cotton. Here's a little more information on some of them:

Organic Cotton: Compared to its conventional counterpart, organic cotton boasts a significantly lower environmental footprint. Studies show that organic cotton cultivation utilizes up to 71% less water and 62% less energy.

Linen: Linen is one of the top sustainable fabrics in the world. Made from Flax plant, which can be entirely used when woven into a Fibers, it typically requires far less pesticides and water than other plants such as cotton. For context, a linen shirt uses ~6.4 liters of water across its lifecycle, compared to 2,700 liters for a cotton shirt. It uses less pesticides and fertilizers too and up to 20% less energy. Linen is also fully biodegradable.

Bamboo: Bamboo is a fast-growing and renewable resource that can grow up to a foot per day, and serve as a carbon sink!
