      Why We Love It

Simple Supply Chain: Simplicity is key when it comes to sustainability. Fewer steps, fewer manufacturers and fewer ingredients can often mean fewer emissions and less pollution. What it always means is that when a business says their products are sustainable, it's a lot easier to verify. That's why we love simple supply chains!

Fairtrade: Fairtrade goes beyond just a feel-good label. It guarantees farmers in developing countries a minimum price for their crops, often well above market value. It also ensures workers receive fair wages and work in safe conditions, with protection against child labor and discrimination. Finally, Fairtrade promotes environmentally sustainable practices by encouraging reduced use of harmful chemicals and promoting biodiversity. By choosing Fairtrade you're not just getting a quality product, you're contributing to a fairer and more sustainable world.

Locally Sourced: We love local! By reducing transportation distances for raw materials and finished products, local sourcing helps minimize greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. This translates to cleaner air and a smaller carbon footprint. Local sourcing also fosters stronger connections within communities. It supports local businesses and farmers, injecting revenue back into the local economy, and creating more job opportunities.

Organic Dyes: Organic dyes are paired with water-based binders, eliminating the use of harsh chemicals throughout the dyeing process. This eco-friendly approach ensures the safety of both the wearer and the environment, from initial production to the garment's eventual disposal.

Azo Free Dyes: While widely used, azo dyes raise concerns due to their potential health risks. These synthetic dyes may contain carcinogenic heavy metals and can be absorbed through the skin, accumulating in the body. This poses a risk for both workers who produce azo-dyed goods and consumers who wear them. No Azo, No problem!

Biodegradable: Traditional materials, like plastics, can take centuries to decompose in those landfills, leaching harmful chemicals and threatening wildlife. Biodegradable materials, are broken down naturally by microorganisms a much shorter timeframe, usually a few months or years – returning to harmless components like organic matter, water, and CO2.

      Impact

The U.S. Generated 292.4 million tons of Municipal Solid Waste (MCW) in 2018. That’s nearly 5lbs per person per day! 17 million of those tons came from textiles. Because most of those textiles are made from materials like polyester and contain toxic dyes, they can take centuries to decompose in landfills, leaching harmful chemicals and threatening wildlife. Biodegradable materials like natural fibers are broken down naturally by microorganisms a much shorter timeframe, usually a few months or years – returning to harmless components like organic matter, water, and CO2. This significantly reduces waste volume in landfills, and often creates nutrients that can be reabsorbed by the environment, promoting healthy soil and plant growth.

Globally, the textile industry is the 2nd largest cause of pollution after oil and gas. Enough textiles are discarded annually to fill a garbage truck every minute. Conventional clothing production guzzles water too, an estimated 2.7 trillion liters per year, which is enough to fill an Olympic swimming pool every single day. And it's responsible for around 10% of global carbon emissions, more than international flights and maritime shipping combined. A big reason for all this pollution is fast fashion. Clothing companies make tons (and tons) of cheap clothing to keep up with changing styles knowing they won't sell it all. But they don't care how much goes to waste as long as they make a profit. Don't fall into the trap! Beat the system by buying quality clothes made using sustainable practices, like these.
